IMPORTANT DETAILS TO CONSIDER:

Prices: Prices for rental cars vary greatly depending on the time of year, type of car, the rental company, and supply and demand. Generally, prices are higher during peak travel months when inventories are lower (December to April, and July). It’s advisable to rent several months in advance during the busiest times, such as Christmas, New Years, and Easter Week, as cars tend to sell out. Conversely, prices in the low season, especially in September or October, can be very appealing when tourism is at its slowest.

Collision Damage Waiver-Theft Protection (CDW-TP): The CDW-TP also known as “Car Protection” is mandatory and can only be declined if you opt to purchase a wider Protection Package like the Alamo Protection Package (APP) or an Extended Protection option, depending on the rental agency. Alternatively, you can decline the CDW-TP/Car Protection if you already have coverage through a credit card under your name (the driver’s name). Major credit cards often offer this benefit through their card agreement. To decline, you’ll need to provide proof of your coverage through a letter from your credit card company. This can usually be obtained with a quick phone call to your credit card provider. Most rental car companies require the letter to include the name and credit card information of the primary driver.

Third Party Liability (TPL): The purchase of Third Party Liability (TPL) is required by all rent-a-car locations on all vehicles unless you opt for a more comprehensive Protection Package, such as the Alamo Protection Package (APP), or an Extended Protection option that includes TPL.
